Inpatient Diabetes Program Development
An expert nurse clinician responsible for promoting optimal diabetes care through clinical activities, professional and public education, research activities, administrative functions, and quality improvement activities:

Expert clinician advocating for patients and families through coordinating and leading clinical practice and quality improvement initiatives.

Collaboration with multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement clinical standards, algorithms, policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

Promotion of patient safety and quality outcomes through collaboration, clinical inquiry using evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for diabetes care and management.

Development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based strategies and innovative models of practice across the continuum of care for patients with diabetes.

Coordination of RN inpatient Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (CDCES) to ensure highest priority patients receive quality education prior to discharge.

Evaluation and feedback regarding nursing care for diabetes patients including education directed toward identified knowledge deficits, treatment planning, and discharge planning utilizing the nursing process.

Consultation and education for nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues.

Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to integrate the nursing perspective into a comprehensive plan of care for the patient and family.

Identification of clinical opportunities and research to advance the science of nursing practice.

Mentor nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members for disseminating, implementing, and evaluating research findings.
